25 years ago, Roger allowed me to join his deer hunting camp. At that time, it was just Roger and Tim and if you knew "the cabin" then, there's wasn't much room for any more than that. We made do and so began, an annual tradition and newfound friendship.
Throughout the years, I enjoyed many random trips to the cabin to help around the property, grouse hunt, deer hunt, cook meals and shoot the shit. Often times, work didn't get done because Roger liked to talk and tell stories. Let's say, we had long breaks. Roger loved to talk about the days of crawling around the forest hunting deer, trapping and fishing with his brothers and Tim. He had a passion for the outdoors, construction equipment, moving dirt and sometimes doing things the hard way just because. There was always something to do. My favorite story is when he bought the old bridge in Tripoli and figured out how to remove it from its foundation and transport it five miles down YY. There was no room for cars to get by and he didn't care. That bridge now sits at Lake Leon Lodge and it will stay there forever!
Roger had so many talents and could build or fix just about anything. He amazed me including building a 2-story log cabin addition. Tim and I will finish that cabin and Lake Leon Lodge and the property that goes with it, will stay in The Lane family for generations to come.
Thanks, Roger, for all the great memories and for being a good friend and father figure. You will be sorely missed. I look forward too many more years enjoying the property you built, with Tim and our children. You will not be forgotten. We will take good care of mom and Lake Leon Lodge. Rest in peace.
With love,
Chief

Sad news hearing of Roger's passing. Condolences to the family. Roger and I went through St. Mary's grade school and THS together. I can still remember those early grade school soccer games where all of us just laughed and kicked the ball through the dirt and dust on the playground and brought much of it back inside after recess only to be scolded by the good nuns. RIP Roger !!

My condolences to you and yours. I have great childhood memories of playing marbles and such with Roger all thru our eight years at St. Mary’s.
Also some good laughs while living across the street for awhile a few years ago. I know he had health and pain issues from a bad accident, so one can feel comfort knowing he’s at rest. ✌️
Warm Regards,
Steve Sorenson
