Obituary of Monica Hanson

Monica Hanson, age 78, of Tomahawk, passed away October 6, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Monica was born October 19, 1931 in Oshkosh, the daughter of George and Margaret (Foley) Fahley. Monica attended a one-room schoolhouse until Junior High. She later received her Bachelor's Degree in English from UW - Oshkosh in 1953, and was proud to have worked her way through college by doing housework for the lumber barons of Oshkosh. She married Donald 'Sarge' Hanson on February 5, 1955 in Oshkosh; he passed away October 18, 1995. Monica earned her Master's Degree in English and History from Marquette, Michigan in 1969 with a 4.0 GPA. Monica was a teacher with the Manawa and Appleton School Districts before moving to the Tomahawk School District where she taught for many years, retiring in 1989. Monica felt enormously blessed to have taught the world's best students, and truly loved all of the precious children entrusted to her care. Monica was a Charter Member of the Tomahawk Booster Club, a member of the Women's Civic Group, the Red Hat Society, the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary, and the Retired Teachers' Association. She was a very active member and volunteer of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Survivors include: Son George (Paula) Hanson Rhinelander Daughters Nina 'Tina' (Henry) Loza Abilene, Texas Mary Morris Wausau Jane Hanson Carrollton, Texas Lori (Don) Ogden Merrill Susan Hanson Dothan, Alabama Sister Jane (Keith) Bauer Riverside, California Companion Ray Timm Tomahawk Monica is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many friends, whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and dear friend - Irene Timm. A Mass of Christian Burial for Monica will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 from St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Corpus Christi Center of St. Mary on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 3:00-8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service to begin at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk.
