Obituary of Gordon Comeau

Gordon A. Comeau, formerly of Tomahawk, died Monday December 20, 2010 at Mount View Nursing Home in Wausau. Gordon was born October 8, 1919 in Tomahawk, WI, the son of Alec and Marie Comeau. A US Army Veteran of World War II, Gordon's medical unit was attached to General Patton's Third Army. He received a "Battle Star for Action" during the Battle of the Bulge. His unit was stationed at Rheims, France. After the war, Gordon worked for American Can Co. as a wax coating machine operator for 28 years, retiring in 1981. He loved to read, take daily walks around Wausau and video tape school and community events, many of which aired on Public Access Channel 10. Gordy was a quiet, unassuming soul, always in the background, recording special moments in the lives of others. A life-long bachelor and the youngest of nine children, Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers William (Dade), Lester, Edward, George and Joseph Comeau and three sisters Leona Quant, Dolores Conrad and Florence Schoenfeld. He is fondly remembered by nephews William (Diane Holzschuh), Kenosha, Charles (Maggie) Schoenfeld, Wausau, niece Lois Jean Davis, Owasso, OK, and many great nieces and nephews. His gentle heart and ready laugh will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Mount View Care Center, Unit 1 North, for their caring, respectful treatment of Gordon. A Memorial Mass for Gordon Comeau will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010 from St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday the 30th from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:00 a.m.
