Obituary of Irene Verga

Irene Verga, 86, Tomahawk, formerly of Wausau passed on peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Golden Living- Golden Age Nursing and Rehab Center in Tomahawk. Irene was born on October 31, 1924 in Fremont, WI to the late Herman and Selma (Pagel) Wegner. She married John J. Verga on June 15, 1946. Irene was formerly employed by Sears, JC Penney and Marathon Battery all of Wausau and after retirement volunteered at the local nursing homes. She enjoyed spending time with her family. When she could she enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and watching football and baseball games on TV with her husband. She most enjoyed baking cookies and toffee bars for her grandchildren. Surviving children include Carol (John) Gorecki of Mosinee, WI; Cathy (Burt) Hughes of Sheboygan, WI; David (Kathy) Verga of Tomahawk, WI. Five grandchildren, Kellee (Jeff) Beste of Mosinee, WI; Karee (Kris) Grod of Mosinee, WI; Genevieve Hughes of Chicago, IL; Paul Hughes of Sheboygan, WI; Matthew (Abby, fiancé)Hughes of Minneapolis, MN. Five great grandchildren, Macee, Maloree and Maxwell Beste of Mosinee, WI; Drake Grod, Mosinee, WI; Teegan Hughes of Manitowoc, WI and the very special family friends, Linda (Jeff) Raasch, Rothschild, WI; two special family grandchildren, Sabrina Hintz and Sarah Sonnetag. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1999, her parents, three brothers, Harold, Edward and Clarence Wegner, one sister, Eleanor Schneck and one son John Edward. Services will be held in Tomahawk on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Krueger Family Funeral Home at 101 N. 2nd Street, in Tomahawk. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 until the time of service at 6. A celebration of life dinner will be held at the Moose Supper Club following the service. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Wausau.
