Obituary of Clifford Fishbeck

Clifford L. Fishbeck, age 90, 15 W. Spirit Ave., Tomahawk, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk. Cliff was born December 17, 1920 in Bird City, Kansas, the son of Jesse and Clara (Kosky) Fishbeck. He married Glady Shupp on February 19, 1955 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Cliff was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. He was discharged at Fort McCoy in November 1945. He spent 65 years in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and worked as a painter, traveling in the Industrial Painting Business for 30+ years. Following his retirement in 1987, he and Glady moved to Tomahawk, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and walking in the woods looking for tree roots, which he then made into walking sticks and canes. He also enjoyed gardening, yardwork, woodworking and making items for family and friends, making maple syrup and picking wild berries, which Glady then made into berry jelly. Cliff's grandson Daniel was his favorite buddy, spending many hours together. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Tomahawk Lions Club, the Painters' Union, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Survivors include: Wife Glady Fishbeck Tomahawk Son Thomas (Tammy) Fishbeck Tomahawk Sister Barbara Ames Montana Cliff is further survived by his grandson - Daniel, and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass for Clifford L. Fishbeck will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 12:00 noon.
