Obituary of Gordon Erickson

Gordon J. Erickson, Jr., 78, a longtime Tomahawk area resident, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Gordy was born June 25, 1945 in Tomahawk to Gordon and Dorothy (Liberty) Erickson, Sr. He received his Bachelor’s degree from UW Madison in Physical Education and taught in Tomahawk for 32 years retiring in 2000. He then was known as the “paper guy” as he delivered papers in the area for many years. Gordy also raised veal calves for 14 years. Gordy had an illustrious career coaching in Tomahawk and holds a place in both the Wisconsin State Coaching Hall of Fame and the Tomahawk Hatchet Hall of Fame. Survivors include his children, Michael Erickson, Hudson, WI; Matthew (Cathy) Erickson, Prairie Farm, WI; Rebecca (Luke) Schwanz, Birnamwood, WI; and Rachel (Joshua) Fettes, Eau Claire, WI. Gordy is further survived by his wife, Anna; a sister, Joy (Mike) Goes of Tomahawk; a brother, Larry (Barb) Erickson, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. A Memorial Service for Gordy Erickson will be held 2:00pm Sunday August 27th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses N3010 County Road K in Merrill, WI. The family will receive friends at the Kingdom Hall. Krueger Nimsgern Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for the family.
