I was sorry to hear of Don's passing. My husband Mark worked with Don for many years at the Human Service center in Rhinelander.
A memory I have of Don, was him stopping at our house after Mark became ill with Parkinson's and spending time just talking and reminiscing about their time working together. Don was a Kind and Caring Man.

Memory-Donald Cannady
Don and I established a great friendship. We united as a partnership in golf at Maple Birch/Edgewater Golf Course. We played in the Wednesday Night League and many other times during week, We were probably average + golfers. Trophies tell me that in the League we were 1st in 1992 ,1994, 2000 and with several 2nd and 3rd positions in various years. One day we went to the course early in the morning and played all day, never leaving the Course, until early evening after we had completed 11 rounds (99 holes of golf). I was blessed with having Don and my son, Tad with me when I had a 190 yard hole in one, July 2, 1986 at Maple Birch. We enjoyed playing card poker at the Course and in an after season monthly group.
Companion number one, super friend, a lot of our activities ended with certain restrictions brought on with aging. In my book, Don is and will always be a number one.

Ed, when dad spoke of you, his fondness and admiration were always present. I'll never forget the time he shared tales of your astounding 99 hole achievement. Though he didn't believe it made either of you better golfers, he insisted it was worth it. When dad and I ran into you at the Tomahawk Family Restaurant, we shared a delightful conversation before you had to leave. As you left, my dad smiled, his eyes glimmering,he paused and remarked, "There goes a good man.". Blessings, Robert Cannady

I will always remember Pastor Don with a smile since he always, always had one ready for everyone. He exemplified the Christian way of life and was a kind and gentle presence. His home visits meant a lot to my parents, particularly my dad. Being on staff at Grace Lutheran together was a treasured time in my ministry. I especially enjoyed Don sharing his memories of growing up in Brokaw. I am with you all in prayer during this time and my tears are for all who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed. Rest assured that Mona came to show him the way home and Jesus welcomed him with open arms.

Short in stature Don Cannady was a giant in love and faith. Most of us wish we could be nonjudgmental, genuinely caring, and fully present with each person. Don Cannady did that. He modeled, inspired, and guided all he met to seek to be more loving. I had the honored privilege of meeting weekly with him over several years to pray, plan, and coordinate pastoral care. I can attest to the depth of this man's faith and the thoroughness of his love and care for others. What a great loss, but also, what a great gift Don and Mona Cannady are - for their Lord and their love lives on! Thanks be to God!
