We are truly saddened to learn of Verna’s passing, just short of her 100th birthday. Verna’s father (Court) was a brother of Brian and Janice’s great- grandmother (Dora), making us first cousins twice removed (1C2R). Over the years, but especially a couple decades back, Verna contributed significantly to the preparation of a Brandt family history, which captured not only lineage but narrative of the settling immigrant family.
Consequently, we knew and kept in touch with Verna through the years. She was a genuinely nice person, and we are honored to be part of a branch of her extended family.
We’ve chosen to honor her memory with the planting of three trees, in honor of her contributions to our family tree.

Q: How did you meet Verna?
A: She was friends with my mom Ruth Shore and I have many fond memories of Verna and what a wonderful lady she was. My sincere condolences go out to her family she will be missed; one of my favorite memories is going and visiting when she would have yard sales and just catch up and neighborhood things! RIP Verna your in the best of hands now!

I’ve seen firsthand and heard stories of how Grandma lived life to the full; how she loved each of us in a way special to us; and shared her contagious joy of laughter - one day at a time.
One of my favorite memories is when Grandma was having a garage sale. I stopped over & chatted with her for a while as I looked over all the potential treasures. I stumbled upon a set of chisels that Grandpa Elmer used for cement work. So, I told Grandma about the stone sculptures I do and she wouldn’t let me leave without them. Since then, I’ve created sculptures of bear, birds, buffalo, fish, flames, plants, sanctuary, time, and an empty tomb to name a few.
And I think she would’ve been most excited about that last one; because it highlights several important things. Jesus really lived on earth, loves each one of us - so much that He laid down His life. And then must have laughed at death as that stone was rolled away.
Whenever I see the words LIVE, LOVE, & LAUGH... I think of Grandma and how she was trying to follow in the footsteps of her savior. I’m going to try to do the same - one day at a time.
