Wally and I were friends in the early 1940's on Diversey Pkwy in Chicago. We played together and attended St. Alphonse School. His parents were great friends with their neighbors who were my grandparents! I am now 85. Wally was one year younger.

So sorry to her of Wally's passing. Although it has been many years since we last saw Wally, we both recall my life's journey to a private pilot's license under Wally's guidance 40 years ago. Sarcastic humor (on both sides) smoothed the sometimes stressful steps to success and a license. Wally always had that personal touch with all of his students, which we all appreciated. Rest in peace Wally, and may all your landings be uneventful.

Our sincere condolences to the Dieter family. Many great times at Ufda Fest at the Fishtrap with the Motley's. Remembering good times installing antennas and radios. He touched many lives between Tomahawk and his Chicago visits to the Society Radio Operators Club. Wally will be missed by many. Paul (NJ9V) and Donna Cavallaro.

Wally had a fireworks store near my house in brantwood Wisconsin.
I went to the store several times this year and talked with him, and he had crackers and cheese spread in the office.
Great man .
We talked about ham radio and his planes and a lot of things.
He went to taco Tuesday, and fish fry on Friday in the tomahawk wi area.
Good times .
I will miss him .
Best 73’s

Wally was like my second dad. He and Clarisse actually sat at the parents table during my wedding reception. They both belonged there. I met Wally when I was 16, he and the Dieter clan made me feel like family. He was a great influence and inspiration during probably the best time of my life... and the worst. Buddy was my best friend and I think of him always. Such a terrible tragedy. And Debbie was my first love.
Wally was stern when he needed to be, and compassionate when I needed him to be. I will never forget his smile... nothing like it to light up any event.
I could go on and on. I am in tears now.
I LOVE YOU WALLY! I ALWAYS WILL!!!

My heartfelt condolences to the Dieter family. I remember going up to Tomahawk with my Dad (Roger Wayman W9GG) and spending evenings at the Fish Trap with Wally and Clarisse. Clarisse would make us a pizza and we would play pool. As a HAM myself (N9FQP) I always liked to chat N9CLE up on 2 meters when I was up north. I remember when the repeater went in, it was an exciting thing for the guys and gals in Tomahawk. Truly a wonderful man and terrific memories!

Wally will be deeply missed in many ways, and especially by our parish family of St. Mary's. He was a phenomenal lector, and when he read scripture, it was clear and effective, and it came from his heart. He was also a narrator for several of our Advent concerts, and his soothing voice added such a special touch. My sincere sympathy to Clarisse and family. Jan Huseby

Thank you Jan for recognizing Dad’s efforts. I remember how excited he was when he found his first lector workbook at a Christian bookstore. Many weekends, when I was visiting and he was scheduled to read on Sunday, I’d listen to the verses he was rehearsing and we’d discuss the context of God’s word. Delighted to hear Dad’s preparation was a blessing to the congregation.

Many people grieve when one of the "good guys" leaves us behind. Wally was one of those "good guys" whose moderating influence found central pathways through confusing forests of conflicting information and positions. An avid contributor to most any discussion, he was informed on a great variety of subjects. His subtle leadership style resulted in origination and culmination of a number of activities that benefited both his family and his friends. Wally was one of those guys that people expect to live forever. The presence of Wally Dieter will be greatly missed by his many close and casual friends at Desert Palms RV Resort.

It was wonderful to have known Wally. He always had a big smile for anyone he met. We got to know Wally and Clarisse in Salome, AZ when we started wintering there in 2007. We went on desert rides with a group and breakfast at Wayside. He was always front and center with Clarisse at the Monday night jam at Hope, AZ. We were blessed to visit them at their home in Tomahawk, WI. He will be missed. May he test in peace. Dave and Mary Wells Merrimac, WI
