My thoughts and prayers to you, Carolyn, and your family. I am an Iola native and remember Donnie as a friendly, kind, happy Norwegian that everyone enjoyed knowing. I feel blessed having known Donnie and followed his life via Jack and Ruth Halverson. Blessed be his memory to all who knew him.

If I had to sum up how I will remember Don Halverson, it would be how, after swimming, walking, and taking great care of his property, he would stop by and tell me I was too busy and working too hard! God bless!

Our hearts go out to Don's family. We have had the pleasure of being neighbors for 5 years when kids were little (1 was born in that time). Don and Carolyn were an extra set of grandparents that the kids, Eddie, and I would look forward to seeing at least 2 times/day while they were out and about in the neighborhood and we were outside, too. He shared our love for the outdoors, from fishing to maple syrup and lots in between. He was always so patient and encouraging when kids would show him every worm and toad and, as they got better at catching things, salamander and snake in addition to telling him all of their names. Even the time they had 40+ toads in an old cooler!!! Don will be greatly missed!

We were so saddened to see the news of dear Don passing. Our family will miss him-we always sat near them at church. Don and Carolyn have been beloved blessings in our church family for my entire life. My favorite memory was when he taught the Sunday school kids a prayer in Norwegian!
