In summer 1979, Darlene visited me together with my
sister Eva, when I was building my new house. I know
I took a picture but I can not find it. When I looked after
it I found a picture taken by Darlene, signed on the
backside and posted to me.
I also have old letters with tokens from native
Americans, adressed to our mother Carin that
I translated for her.
Darlene and I also had a few contacts via Facebook,
talking aboute our "Family Tree".
I hereby send my warm condolences to all her family.

Darlene taught my younger brother and she sat him next to her desk to help him with his shyness. I am forever grateful for her kind heart. I went to school with Darlene's son Jon and worked with her daughter Julie. Wurls are a family worth knowing. I spent some time with Darlene in her later years when she visited her friend Peg Wurl.
I want to express my sympathy to the family. We are all so blessed with the many memories of Darlene's life well lived.

Dar is one of my favorite people with her deep passion for people and people's stories. She lived this out in her teaching, church involvement, community engagement and in every conversation. I left every conversation feeling loved, having learned something new and eager for the next conversation. She and Red were an amazing team as both were full of wit, wisdom and love for life, Tomahawk and everyone they met. Claudia & I give you our prayers and sympathy to all the family. The last years of watching both your parents (grandparents, great-grandparents) decline and all the concerns and decisions around that was not easy and was already the cause for much grieving. Now comes the work for all of us to claim and celebrate the gifts and example of faith and life of both Dar & Red and to be inspired by them to love all around us more deeply and to live more fully.
Thanks be to God for Darlene Wurl!

So sorry to hear of Mrs. Wurl’s passing. I have stayed in contact with her at Christmas time since I left Tomahawk 45 years ago. Such a special lady. I was her teacher’s aide at Washington School when she was teaching special education. Many nice memories from that time. Blessings, Kathy Krueger.

Darlene was my very favorite teacher. Later in life, she became a good friend. We shared our writings and sometimes sent each other cards and letters. What a treasure she was to the Tomahawk community. She leaves a wonderful legacy behind. I will truly miss her. All my heartfelt sympathies to her family and loved ones.

Grandma always welcomed me with a hug and a kiss into her home. Such a way to be welcomed! There were always toys and projects, her seemingly endless less cooking meals and drinking Folgers, Grandpa woodworking in the garage. It was a calm kind of busy, a happy busy. It was cozy and safe and some of my best childhood memories are from the home she helped create.
