So sorry for your loss. Tom was such a kind person. He did remodel work on our house. He always wore a smile. He’s smiling with the Lord now. May you find comfort in knowing that.

Tom & I were '71 classmates at THS, he was one of my first friends after we moved up in '69.
He is the one classmate I stayed in touch with after graduation & we talked often.
His craftsmanship was known all over the area, he roofed our barn & helped my dad after Pat
& I left the area for our careers. I will miss our talks & his kindness.
He is always going to be remembered in my heart. God rest his soul.
My condolences to his family. Bill Kenney Dallas Texas

So sorry to hear about Tom's passing. He built our house and did a wonderful job. We have treasured his expertise and craftsmanship over these three-plus decades.
I'm personally touched because my dad died of a glioblastoma 32 years ago this month, at age 61. Like Tom, he was so young. Because it was terminal, my dad participated in a number of clinical trials to hopefully help find a cure – radioactive vials in his head, artificial blood and more. I remember a team of doctors flying in from California, surrounding his bed with clipboards, discussing his case. He was diagnosed in June 1987 and died 13 months later. Our hopes were that his participation would lead to a cure someday. But it seems from cases like Sen. McCain and others, that little has changed. I mentioned Tom's passing to my mom, and we both wonder if there is new hope on the horizon?
Please know we are thinking of the family at this time, and wish you peace. I find mine as I go out on the deck of the house that Tom built during the night of every July 12th and talk to my dad among the stars.

Tom Whalen was an Awesome man! He never knew a stranger that he wouldn't help. He reminded me of Grizzle Adams with a great sense of humor. If there was a way to fix something, he knew what to do!! He loves his wife Liz with his whole heart! Courtney is his baby that he loves dearly! He helped his Mom Aunt Franny out all the time! Just remember you are never alone because he will be there in spirit to watch over you all. You now have another guardian angel !! All of our love to you all!!

While I was employed at Tomahawk Ace Hardware, I would help Tom with his purchases. He was always joyful and seemed to be smiling at everything but nothing in particular. So sorry to read of his passing as his demeanor was calm, cool and collected, so I am sure he will be missed by many.

I have many wonderful memories growing up and sharing adventures with Tom and Dan when we were teenagers. Visiting the Whalen/Sweek home was always fun, I always felt comfortable and welcome. Tom, the exploring, hunting, and fishing adventures when we were young, I remember them all. Don (Bear) Robinson

Dear Liz and Courtney,
We are so very sorry to hear about Tom. He was a kind and gentle man and these qualities were evident even though we didn’t know him well. Tom built our deck and we will think of him often when we enjoy it. We will hold you in our thoughts as you go through this very difficult time. Take care.

There just isn't one memory to share of Tom, there are many memories. After knowing Tom, Liz, and Courtney as our neighbors and a dear friends for over 30 years, they are family to us. He always was here if we needed him for anything. Kept our driveway cleared in the winter, helped with fallen trees, made sure our path to our houses was cleared year round, enjoyed hearing many fishing and funny stories, we would see each other fishing off our docks or on our boats, he was here in a minute to help with any house or yard emergencies, we enjoyed going on boat rides with them, he had the best fireworks on the 4th of July, gave my son a job in the summer while he was in high school, he did many upgrades and an additions to our house through the years, talked often and proudly of Courtney and his Grandbabies and he worked sun up to sun down. Stand up guy, will miss him dearly. Sincerely, Kathy Zernach
