I have never met MR. Egelkrout but I know his daughter Deneen. I can tell that he was a good man by the way he raised her. She is a very good woman and I know that he would be proud of the young woman she grew up to be.

When I was little Daryl sent me a Japanese baby doll from Japan where he was stationed in the Marine Corps at that time. He looked handsome in his dress blues. He was the first person I knew with a tattoo. I also remember how much he loved his little dachsund.

One of my favorite memories of Daryl was the time my dad, Daryl and I went fishing the summer before he got married. I was 4 years old. The 3 of us went to a lake out on Hwy A somewhere east of town. We found someone’s boat on the shore and decided to borrow it. That evening I caught 7 bluegills. Daryl caught a turtle, and my dad caught a lot of small bass he had to throw back. We got home just before dark, and my mom was upset with Dad and Daryl for keeping me out so late. I remember lying in the couch watching Gunsmoke before going to bed.

My Dad made a cool plywood platform for my brother's Tyco train and watched him fine tune everything then make my brother let me take some turns controlling the electric power to slowly start the train and operate it. That was the only time I got to touch it because my brother always said, "No, you don't know how, you'll break it." There is a memory I have shared in regards to my ten speed bike, never tell this story while sipping on any beverage because it would get snorted out my nose, cannot tell it with out laughing out loud. My Dad had this awesome work bench in the basement with nothing out of place and I used to skateboard in the basement around the support beams and under the stairs, hit a tennis ball up against one of the walls. Apparently that was boring at times, so I COMPLETELY took my ten speed bike apart. Every screw, nut, bracket came off and was neatly placed in a cardboard box along with the chain, derailleur, brake levers, shift levers...everything. There it was the empty frame, two wheels leaning up against the basement wall and a box of parts. My Mom said something like..."your daughter needs to show you the ten speed bicycle we bought her". I will never forget the look on my Dad's face. The depth of perplexity on his face and then the blank look. Then I asked him if he could paint my bike red. He calmly said he would need to find someone who could try and put my bike back together and that I was not allowed to use his tools. Also gutted out my clock radio that was a Christmas present. You have all these fascinating tools that are all in exact order... to be used, right!? Of course! Used to change my own oil and oil filter on my car, fixed medical lab analyzers over the phone with company technical reps, it was the early years of practice that made that possible. The only time I remember my Dad "spanking" me, was his attempt to spank me around age six. Don't remember why, just that he dangled me from one arm and sort of went around in a circle swatting at my butt barely making contact. On the 4th of July Jeff and I would find him(with my Mom) on 4th street to get more money every time we spent what he gave us for rides and candy.

My Grandpa Egelkrout and my Dad were my school bus drivers. My Grandpa would pull the school bus over and park it, then I would see him start to get up from his seat, turn and stand in the aisle with one hand on each of the two front seats and by that time the bus was already very quiet. He would say, "This bus is not moving unless you behave yourselves and quiet down." My Dad would sometimes let me stay on the bus after the last kid was dropped off so I could help him take the bus back to it's parking space at Lange's, then I could sit in the front seat behind the little metal protective wall that separated the steps from the seats and I could look over the edge and watch the road zip by through the door windows. That was a compromise because I wanted to sit on the stairs and look out the door while he drove.

I remember when we had our first snowmobile and my Dad would tie the round sledding saucer to the back of the snowmobile and give my brother and I rides around the yard at 237 Theiler Drive, depending on his shift schedule and bus route schedule, even if it was already dark outside, just turn on the front step flood light. On Christmas Eve. we had Christmas with my Mom's side of the family so after eating my Dad would say, "I'm going to go check and see if Santa has been to our house yet", (when we were little), he would return telling us that Santa had been to our house.
