Obituary of Leona V Swenson

Leona Swenson, age 86, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Riverview Nursing Home.

Leona was born on December 2, 1932 in Tomahawk to August & Helen (Blohm) Swenson. Leona was born the first generation here after her parents moved from Sweden. She was extremely proud of her Swedish heritage and even spoke a little Swedish. She graduated from Tripoli High School in 1951. Leona loved to draw and took art lessons for many years from Ruth Stoli. She loved writing poems and enjoyed taking walks along the river. Leona worked at the Tomahawk Boat Factory, Nick & Sons Casket factory and was also the secretary and treasurer for Grace Lutheran Sunday School. Even though Leona worked outside the home, she also ran a dairy farm for many years. She also worked at the Tomahawk Town Dump up until a couple of months ago. Leona loved animals. She also busied herself with word searches and with crossword puzzles.

Leona is survived by her brother – August “Louie” Swenson of Tomahawk; her two nieces – Esther (Warren Short) Pierce Pagel & Peggy (Ray Winker) Woller, both of Tomahawk; and her two grandchildren – Eric Woller & Shawn (Jessica) Street. She is further survived by her three great grandchildren – Cadyn & Cecelia Street and Aviana Woller; and her beloved dog – Danny Boy. Leona is preceded in death by her parents, her sister – Esther Pierce, her brother – Albert Swenson, nephew-in-law – James Pagel and the lady who raised her – Mert Vaughan.

The Funeral Service for Leona Swenson will take place at 11:00AM on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Krueger Family Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Ziemer will officiate. Visitation will take place from 9:00AM until the time of service at 11:00AM. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery will take place immediately following the service.
