To Jim - a good friend and a good pilot.
Over the years we flew together on many trips.
The one I remember now is the time we were flying over Indiana and we forgot to check the map.
We ended up flying through a restricted military zone.
The air traffic controller demanded that we identify ourselves.
Instead of replying, you had a different idea - just turn off the radio and continue the flight.
I was surprised by your audacity.
You left too soon.
We need you here.
To remind us, in case we forget, that we used to be young and daring.
To remind us that we really did deserve to celebrate every successful flight - hanging out for hours in Tom's basement.
To remind us that the jokes we told really were funny.
This week you are making your last flight.
It is a westbound flight.
The control tower reports all runways are open.
The visibility is good.
You are cleared to land.
Keep your radio turned on.

I did not know Jim personally, My wife and I spent almost every year up in Tomahawk visiting best friends Tom sad Penny Runkle. I'm a US Marine Vietnam Veteran 68-69, I took Tom's passing very hard and when I heard about Jim passing a fellow Vietnam Veteran, I just wanted to pay my respects. My deepest sympathy to his entire family and I thank him for his service to our country especially as a brother Vietnam Vet. Best Wishes,
Rich

Jim words cannot say how my heart is hurting I love you so much ,life just isn't fair,I remember changing your diapers when Bob was born, I remember when you broke your leg and I strapped you in a wagon and pulled you to Daisy's store, also remember when I rode home with you from the AFB and it was so cloudy you couldn't see hardly at all, we saw 2 tail lights named the truck Frank and followed those tail lights down the mountain. My gosh i can't remember all the good times we had.you will never ever be forgotten and their will always be 6 of us, always. If you only knew how much you were loved. I know your in Heaven and you wouldn't want to come back here but for us left here seeing you leave is almost more than we can bare. you were one of the kindest men I know, not because your my brother but you were their for everyone. until we meet again I love you In deep sorrow I'll say see you love your sister Bonnie

Jim, what can we say!!! We are still in shock. You took such a big bite out of life. Just to look at your posted picture makes us want to laugh and call you "Rascal, " as you would refer to many of us; or a more polite "Doll," for the gals. So many memories you left for us to re-live. We are comforted by the fact that you had a deep faith under that huge sense of humor of yours. We miss you already! Hoping someday to see you at those pearly gates, with a deck of cards and game of acey deucy. You were a patient man, with your children, friends and others. And you wouldn't hesitate to stop to help a stranger in need. Like the time we (withAl) were traveling in upper MI on a fishing trip when you spotted a family whose car broke down. You stopped to help them out. We will miss you, Friend. We will have a tear in our eyes when we listen to the Allman Brothers and Crosby Nash, Stills and Young.

We are so sorry to hear about Jim, it breaks our hearts to know he left us so soon. He used to love to come over to Mom & Dad's to visit and talk about family history - I think he got that love from his Mother. When he bought his property near Tomahawk my Dad and Jeff went over every day to help him get it in shape. He and my Dad were very close. I can just imagine the heavenly reunion they're all having - it makes me smile. To my cousin's and the rest of Jim's family - you are in our thoughts and prayers and you have our deepest sympathy. May the good Lord comfort you and give you strength and peace.
