Graham invested in the newspaper business beyond his task of reporting and editing. He chronicled the history of our community as it happened. He was principled in his approach, succinct in style, dedicated to the truth, and impartial when exploring a complex issue. Good writing is fun to read. Great writing can coalesce a community. Expert writing leaves an enduring legacy.
A vocation doesn't define a person, one of the countless lessons I learned from Graham as a brash writer wannabe. How one earns a paycheck isn't as important as the devotion to the craft, irrespective of the field. Intensity increases as deadlines draw nearer. A good laugh is a good cure. Always read what you have written to see if you any words out.
If he knew there were many who thought he looked like Clark Kent, he didn't let on. In his dealings with others, he didn't so much command respect as earned it. He was enormously proud of his children, and rightfully so.
His laugh came easy. In our conversations, he would laugh straight through whole sentences. I can hear it now, like he's standing next to me, and I'm going to miss him. Peace, Graham. You did well.

Graham - or should I say Mr. Foster, (heavy on the mister as he always said at the shack when I was growing up) was really one of a kind. When I was younger, I didn’t know how serious he was being about correcting our spelling or grammar- but realize now, based on his amazing sense of humor, he was probably joking around with us 90% of the time :-)
As I got older, and began to get the word play he’d use and inside jokes he’d make, he would make me howl out loud with his quick dry wit. The tough and rough exterior I wasn’t so sure about as a kid faded away and I began to see the man who just loved spending time with his buddies - having a Blatz or a Manhattan (sometimes two) and swapping stories until the wee hours of the morning. He knew the secret to hunting wasn’t hunting at all, but being together at the shack - with family and friends. He was part of the generation before us that instilled a sense of thankfulness for what we still have - our cabin and our land. I saw him as a dad, a grandpa and Great Grandpa - and each year at Thanksgiving, I think he enjoyed each new role just a little bit more than the one before it.
Graham was a constant, solid person who had strong beliefs and at times a strong will. I will miss shaking his hand, I will miss his steely look, I will miss the way he’d banter with us all. I know he will certainly be thought of fondly - often - by those he leaves behind. Godspeed MR. Foster - you are and will be missed.

So sorry to hear we've lost Graham. I enjoyed his articles in the paper for years his writing style and wit always had me reading between the lines and smiling! After his retirement I was fortunate enough to meet him and become friends enjoying conversations over beverages and watching him giving Thom the business. He will be deeply missed. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

I am saddened to hear that Graham had passed. I was holding on to some hope that he would appear at Clara Keenan's funeral in September but I never caught a glimpse. Graham was like an uncle to me. When my Dad was out making ad calls for the Leader, Graham would show up at St. Mary's school to take me home when I was sick. He drove me to visit my good friends in Mayville when he was going to Beaver Dam. As an eager and budding journalist, Graham would correct my errors and crack me up with his jokes and dry humor when I was working on the Green Sheet. He will be missed. Kate
