Obituary of David J Sergeant

David J. Sergeant, 69, of Tomahawk, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Riverview Health Services in Tomahawk.

David was born March 29, 1949 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Thomas and Frances (Gillis) Sergeant. He received his BS at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, MS from the University of Arkansas in Athens, Greece, and his Doctor of Education from the University of Memphis in Tennessee. David taught English, French, and Spanish in 8 countries and received numerous awards and distinctions over a 40 year educator career. Once, while teaching in the Chicago area he took a Spanish tutoring job with an adult woman, Oprah Winfrey.   He retired in 2010 and moved to the Tomahawk area. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

David is survived by his twin brother, Thomas “Todd” Sergeant of Princeton, Illinois and nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass for David Sergeant will be held on Tuesday, March 26, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary Catholic Church. Fr. Louis Reddy Maram Reddy will officiate. The family will receive friends at St. Mary Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
