Obituary of Helen M Vander Voort

Helen M. Vander Voort, 97, a longtime resident of Harrison, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 at Riverview Health Services.

Helen was born October 5, 1921 in Spirit Falls to Joseph and Agnes Rzeszutek. She was married to Hans Vander Voort in Tomahawk on May 29, 1943; he passed away in 1974. Helen was employed as a custodian for the Tomahawk School District for almost 50 years. She retired at the age of 79. She was a former 4-H Leader in Harrison, she loved gardening and flowers. Helen was an avid reader and a fantastic scrabble player. She had a strong faith and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughters - Marie (Ed) Betka of Weston, WI, Carol Vander Voort of Tomahawk and Janet Crowell of Tomahawk; Son-in-law - Les Farmer of Tomahawk; Daughter in law - Sandy Vander Voort of California. Helen is further survived by 5 grandchildren - (Daniel (Holly Pophal) Crowell, Erin (Scott) Hefter, John (Kate) Vander Voort, Brian Vander Voort and Richard (Gen) Vander Voort; and 2 great grandchildren - Wyatt and Seth. Helen was preceded in death by her husband – Hans; Son – John; Daughter – Irene; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 16, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at the Krueger Family Funeral Home Friday evening from 4:00PM until the time of the Vigil Service at 7:00PM and again at the church Saturday morning from 10:00AM until the time of Mass at 11:00AM. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery in the spring.
