We knew Floyd through many old cars, and stories he would always tell when you would see him. Floyd always had a smile even if it wasn't a good day. He will be missed by many. Thoughts and prayers to Floyd's family, know in your hearts he was a man that had known many many people, and made friends where ever he went.

Like others, Floyd overcame many obstacles in his life. While life tempered him, it didn't harden him. His kindness, acceptance and love as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle resonate through his family. His humor will live on as will his kindness and energy and countless memories that so many of us were fortunate to make with him. All that he was will be deeply missed. He will live on through many, in many different ways and in a positive light. He loved and he was loved. An intelligent, adaptive, strong, loving, great man by measure. He succeeded in life and made the world a better place. In his passing, he has truly achieved the mark of a man.

I have many memories of Floyd that go back a long time and they are all good memories. I first met Floyd when we were young boys 10 and 12. My dad had and now I have a deer hunting shack on Old 8. Don't ask me how but Floyd became my northwoods baby sitter. What I remember most as kids was playing in the woods, fishing, swimming and roller skating in Tripoli at the school. That was the start of our friendship that never ended.
As happens in life I didn't see Floyd for quite some time. After Vietnam I was discharged from the USMC. Collecting unemployment I made frequent trips from Cedarburg to Old 8. Again, Floyd entered my life. We would visit and talk. I remember Valerie was very young then. One day he offered me a job tending bar for him and I accepted. Now he was my boss.
I lost contact with Floyd after that winter with a move to Florida. I ended up in Tampa and reenlisted in the USMC. The next time I would see Floyd would be 1987 when I retired from the Marines and moved back to Ozaukee county. Again my trips to Old 8 became frequent and I got to visit Floyd many times at his home near Somo Lake. I remember when Ashley was killed. That bothered Floyd a lot and we talked about it a lot.
Floyd was now busy with logging and I sought him out for places with oaks to bow hunt. He sent me to Brantwood, a piece of property of his with oaks. Thank you Floyd. I will always remember that property and the nice buck I took out of there with the bow. When it came time to log off my 40 on Old 8, Floyd got the job. My daughters got to meet Floyd and Floyd got to meet my daughters. When I told them about Floyd's passing, I asked if they remembered him. They said, Oh yes we remember him. He was that short nice man you introduced us do.
Being a farrier I knew as much about dropping trees as Floyd did about putting shoes on a horse so I would call on Floyd to drop a tree I was worried about falling on the cabin. He would chuckle and in five minutes my cabin would be safe for the time being.
I'll never forget the first time I visited Floyd at his home at Killarney Lake. I was a little bit awestruck. I had seen plenty of log homes before but nothing like this one. This one was special. The logs used were something else. Floyd said it was one of the benefits of being a logger.
On one of my visits to Floyd at Killarney Lake I had my grandson Gabriel along. That day Gabe got to meet Floyd's grandson Izaac. They played together and the two of them hit it off. When I told Gabe of Floyd's passing he asked about Izaac. Who knows, maybe 60 years from now they will still be friends and visiting.
I remember Floyd's humble beginnings and saw his many achievements through his life and remain impressed. He was resourceful and a doer!
Debbie and family, we the Uselding family, extend our sincere condolences. Floyd will be missed but not forgotten.
